Heʻeia State Park

"The park itself earns it a 5 star already !! We didn’t get to stay long but it was gorgeous and would be a great place for a family outing or picnic. Lots of interesting animal and plant life as well."

"This is a nice little state park with plenty of free parking. Several picnic tables with nice views can be found close to the park’s office. There was a wedding at the outdoor area, which should give the newlyweds a wonderful memory. Update: stopped by to get some nice ocean breeze and beautiful views. It’s quite tranquil here during a weekday afternoon."

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A lush, scenic paradise (and an animal lover’s dream!) If you are looking for a slice of authentic, Windward-side beauty away from the hustle of Waikiki, Heʻeia State Park is an absolute gem. I cannot recommend this stop enough—it’s peaceful, culturally rich, and visually stunning. The Views The moment you park, you are hit with some of the most spectacular panoramic views on Oahu. The park sits right on a peninsula jutting out into Kāneʻohe Bay, offering an unobstructed look at the Sunken Island (Kaneohe Sandbar) and the stunning Koolau Mountain Range in the background. The water is that incredible mix of turquoise and deep blue, framed by lush greenery. It’s the perfect spot for photos or just sitting on a bench to soak in the trade winds. The Wildlife & Friends While the ocean views are world-class, the real local "residents" stole the show for me. This park is teeming with life! * The Cats: If you are a cat person, you will be in heaven. There is a colony of community cats here that seem very well-cared for. Many of them were lounging in the shade or sunbathing on the grass. They added such a calm, welcoming vibe to the park. * Roosters & Chickens: It wouldn't be Hawaii without the chickens! The roosters here are vibrant and bold, strutting around the grounds with their families of hens and tiny chicks in tow. They are entertaining to watch as they forage through the foliage. * Birdwatching: Beyond the poultry, the trees are alive with birds. You can hear them singing the moment you step out of your car. I spotted several species flitting between the palms and the mangroves. The Verdict Heʻeia State Park is 5 stars all the way. Whether you are there to rent a kayak, learn about Hawaiian culture, or just enjoy a picnic surrounded by friendly cats and clucking chickens, it’s a must-visit. It feels alive and incredibly peaceful all at once."
